Adab for Rasool (PBUH)
Disclaimer – Any mistakes are apologized for in advance. Readers are asked to confirm the authenticity.
More than 1400 years ago there was a man named Abdullah. He was very handsome. All girls were after him. But he was a very pious man and ignored all these girls. In that dour (time) of jahaliyat, it was very rare for a man ke woh larkiyon se bachay. Later on, he got married to a woman name Amnah. After he got married all the girls who were after him gave up ke ab tou is kee shaadi ho gaye hai. All but one. One woman was still after him. Abdullah was a trader and he had to pass by her area. Because of that woman he stopped going in that area. But one day, he had no other option and had to go from there. When he went there the woman saw him and came running towards him. She shrieked, and started crying and ran back and closed the door. Abdullah was very surprised that she was after him for so long and now she is shrieking and crying. What’s wrong?
Abdullah went to her door and asked what the problem is. Now this woman was very knowledgeable. She told him that we know that a last prophet will come, and we have seen sign that his coming is near. On your forehead, I saw the ‘noor of nabuat’ and I wanted to marry you so that the last prophet will come from my line. But today when I saw you, I saw that the ‘noor of nabuat’ has left your forehead. I don’t want anything to do with you now. I don’t want to marry you anymore.
That was the day when the noor of nabuat left Hazrat Abdullah’s forehead and moved to Hazrat Amnah’s womb.
Best of Creation
Allah made Hazrat Mohammad Mustafa (PBUH) the best of creation.
Allah says in Quran whoever obeys him (PBUH), obeys me;
Whoso obeyeth the messenger hath obeyed Allah. (Surah An-Nisa:80)
Allay says in Quran, Surah Al-e-Imran;
Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (31)
Don’t we all want this? To be loved by Allah and that all our sins be forgiven? But we are not trying hard enough. We all want to enter jannat and we all want our sins to be washed away.
Allah notices all this and knows that we want to enter jannat, that we want all our sins to be forgiven. And, therefore, He is giving us a solution. If you want to become My beloved, love My beloved (PBUH).
Allah has made it our nature to love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). You don’t have to tell people about his (PBUH) traits. People just start loving him (PBUH) when they hear about him (PBUH).
We would all love to go to jannat, but we are not trying to implement the solution Allah has provided us.
Once a man was sitting in a bazar and crying a lot. People asked him why are you crying. He said
Allah in logon ko itna mananay kee koshish kar rahay hain, yeh log maantay hee nahi.
Logon ne unhein console kiya ke yeh duniya aisi hee hai, aap na royein.
Thoray dinon baad woh aadmi qabrastan mein bethay ro rahay thay. Logon ne pocha kya hua, aap kyun ro rahay hain? Unhon ne jawab diya;
Ab yeh log Allah ko mananay kee koshish kar rahay hain aur Allah maan hee nahi rahay.
Hadees tells that;
We are supposed to love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) more than our ancestors and children.
Practical demonstration of this love is Sahaba Karam (RA)
Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddiq (RA)
Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddiq (RA) changed his appearance to be like Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) so much so that they both looked so alike that people often confused them. Like we say that when there is love between two people they even start resembling each other.
Another Sahabi (RA)
Another Sahabi (RA) said to Nabi Kareem (PBUH);
I love you (PBUH) more than my maal (wealth). When I am at home I keep thinking about you (PBUH) so I come to you (PBUH) and I gaze at your (PBUH) face. But then I get sad because K know that death will one day approach both of us. And even if I go to jannat, you (PBUH) will be with anbiya, salaheen and shuhada.
Basically he said that I won’t be able to look at you (PBUH) in jannat. This world is better because I can look at you (PBUH).
At this Allah said that in jannat people will be with those whom they love.
This made the sahaba karam (RA) really happy.
Mohabbat k Taqazay
If we say that we love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) then there are some taqazay of mohabbat. Mohabbat ke kuch taqazay hotay hain.
For example, if a husband says to his wife on the first day that I really love you. I will bring the stars and moon for you. And from the next day, he finds fault in everything she does. And does not take care of her. Us kee har baat pe aitraz karay. Aur chand taray tou kya sabzi bhi na la ke dey. Will we say that they are true lovers?
Similarly, it is not enough to just say that we love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). Humein aisa ishq karna hai jo nazar aye aur ishq ke taqazay puray karnay hain.
Hamari taraf se deen mein feelings kee buhat kami hai.
Namaz mein agar feelings hoti hain tou namaz ka maza aata hai. Tilawat mein agar feelings hoti hain tou tilawat ka maza ata hai.
Jab Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ka zikar ho tou dil se ihtram karein. Dil mein ihtram kee feeling aani chaye.
Jab Sahaba Karam (RA), Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ke saath bethay hotay thay aur Nabi Kareem (PBUH) koi hadees bata rahay hotay thay woh itnay ihtram se bethay hotay thay k zara bhi nahi hiltay thay aur paranday un ke sar pe aa kay beth jatay thay.
Jab hum hadees parhein tou hum bhi waisay hee ihtram se bethein.
Imam Malik (Rehmat Ullah)
Imam Malik (Rehmat Ullah) k paas jab bhi koi ata tha tou who phele apni baandi ko bhejtay thay keh poch ke ao ke kis liye aye hain. Agar log kehtay thay k kisi fiq k maslay ke liye aye hain tou inhein foran andar bula letay thay. Agar koi kehta tha ke hadees sunay aye hain tou Imam Malik (Rehmat Ullah) phele gusal kartay thay. Phir achay kapray pehan kar itar lagatay thay. Aik takht hadees sunanay ke liye maqsoor kiya hua tha, us pe beth k buhat sara durood parhtay thay aur phir hadees batatay thay.
Kisi ne pocha keh aap itna kartay hain is se aap ko kya faida hua tou unhon ne bataya ke aik raat chor kar roz Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) khwab mein atay hain.
Durood Shareef is a sign that you love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
2. When you love someone you do whatever they say
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Rawaha (RA)
Hazrat Abdullah (RA) aik dafa masjid mein dakhil ho rahay thay tou aik qadam masjid k andar tha aur aik qadam bahar keh unhein Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) kee awaz aye, ‘Beth jao, beth jao’, tou Hazrat Abdullah (RA) waheen beth gaye. Bahar dhoop thi magar phir bhi who aisay hee beth gaye. In se kisi ne pocha keh aap aisay kyun beth gaye, aik qadam andar rakhnay mein kitni dair lag jati. Magar unhon ne jawab diya keh Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ka hukum tha tou mein is kay khilaf aik qadam bhi kaisay utha sakta tha.
Aur jab hum koi hadees ya sunnat suntay hain tou kehtay hain ke ‘hum kal se amal karein gain’.
We should follow sunnah. If you love Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), then you should follow sunnat).
We are all kinds of crazy, but we are not sunnah-crazy.
Start your day like Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) used to recite a dua and rubbed his (PBUH) eyes when he (PBUH) woke up. At night, aap (PBUH) apna bistar jhartay thay and he (PBUH) used to recite a dua.
How nice it would be if we would start and end our day like our beloved Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
3. When you love someone, you discuss that person a lot
Like mothers discuss their favorite child all the time. They keep telling everyone, mera bacha tou yeh karta hai, mere bachay ko tou yeh ata hai, woh ata hai.
We should also discuss Nabi Kareem (PBUH) in our gatherings.
Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddiq (RA)
After the death of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), once when Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddiq (RA) wanted to tell something about him (PBUH), he (RA) said his (PBUH) name and started crying.
Then he again said his (PBUH) name and started crying.
Then again he said his (PBUH) name and started crying.
He (RA) couldn’t go beyond the name of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), he missed him (PBUH) that much.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA)
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) ka aik dafa paon so gaya tha tou unhein kaha gaya ke jis se sab se zada mohabbat hai us ka naam lou tou theek ho jaye ga. Tou Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) ne kaha Rasool Allah (PBUH).
It is said that whenever your leg goes numb, recite durood shareef.
Hazrat Bilal (RA)
After the death of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), Hazrat Bilal (RA) got so upset that he left Madinah.
One night, he saw Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) or heard Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH)’s voice saying;
Bilal itna arsa hua hum (PBUH) se milnay ko nahi aye?
Hazrat Bilal (RA) woke up and immediately started travelling towards Madinah. He (RA) did not wait for the morning, he immediately left for Madinah.
When he reached Madinah, he went to Masjid-e-Nabwi (PBUH). Wahan Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) aur Hazrat Imam Hassan (RA) thay aur unhon ne kaha ke humein Nabi Kareem (PBUH) kay waqt hee azan sunni hai. (Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ke waqt Hazrat Bilal (RA) azan diya kartay thay.)
Hazrat Bilal (RA) ne azan dena shoroh kee tou log apnay gharon se nikal aye. Auratein bhi chaadrein orh kar gharon se nikal ayein. Us waqt aik bachay ne apni maa se pocha Nabi Kareem (PBUH) kay waqt kee azan tou ho rahi hai, Nabi Kareem (PBUH) kab wapis ayein gain?
4. Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ka jo ummat ke liye ghum tha woh ghum hum mein bhi hona chaye
Nabi Kareem (PBUH) used to cry for his (PBUH) ummat. We should also feel the same for Muslims.

Last week we faced a tragedy. Peshawar school were attacked with 141 dead. Of which 132 were children.
There are people who got depressed because of this incident. And there are people who upset because they don’t feel a thing.
Not just one crime
It’s not just a single crime. It is a crime that affected many. The martyrs, their families, the survivors and their families, everyone in Pakistan and Muslims around the world were affected.
There is a boy (survivor) who reported that the murderers were saying Allah o Akbar while they slaughtered children. Now when he hears azaan, he doesn’t feel the halawat of imaan, the love for Allah.
Who knows if he’ll ever get out of this phase? Who knows if he’ll ever again feel the halawat of imaan. If he’ll ever again feel love for Allah?
In these times of crisis, we are often riddled by the question; what should we do? What can we do?
1. Make Dua
The first thing that we should do is pray for the survivors, their families and the families of shauhada (martyrs). We should pray that their imaan remains intact, that their love for Allah is restored.
In Quran, Allah says;
Successful indeed are the believers (1)
(Surah Al-Mumenoon, 23rd Surah of Quran)
And one of the characteristics of the momin who have reached success is that they let go of anything that doesn’t concern them.
And who shun vain conversation, (3)
(Surah Al-Mumenoon, 23rd Surah of Quran)
And who keep themselves away from vain things, (3)
(Surah Al-Mumenoon, 23rd Surah of Quran)
People in Pakistan, they have a habit of doing tabsara. We tend to discuss anything and everything.
This tabsara will not get us anywhere.
It is said that Pakistan’s conditions have been deteriorating since 1947. Imagine how many tabsaras have been done since 1947.
Imagine how many tabsara have been done in one year.
Imagine if instead of doing tabsara we had made dua for one year, the whole situation of Pakistan would have been different.
Dua is something you should never underestimate.
People say, tell me to something practical.
The Power of Dua
When we look at Taif, we understand the power of dua.
Hazrat Mohammad (Peace be upon him) was broken hearted. People in Makkah had declined Islam. He (Peace be upon him) had lost Hazrat Khadija (RA). He (Peace be upon him) had so much hope while going to Taif. But they threw stones at our Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) so much so that his (Peace be upon him) shoes were filled with blood. A that time, Hazrat Jibraeel (AS) asked Prophet (Peace be upon him) that if you (Peace be upon him) say we’ll crush Taif valley between the two mountains. But Nabi Kareem (Peace be upon him) said;
I have been sent as rehmat for the people.
And then he (Peace be upon him) made dua for Taif.
His (Peace be upon him) dua for Taif was accepted so the next generation of Taif was completely Muslim.
The problem is that we want instant gratification. We expect that when we make dua we should see the results immediately.
Three possible outcomes of Dua
When we make dua, three outcomes are possible.
- Immediately we’ll get what we wanted.
- When it’s good: We’ll get what we want when it’s good for us.
- Something bad which was destined for us will not happen. For example, if we pray that Allah I want chocolate cake. Then maybe we’ll not get the cake but we were to get in an accident at night and we’ll be saved from that.
We should also remember that Hazrat Musa (AS) and Hazrat Haroon (AS) made dua for Bani Israel. They made a very heart felt dua for their qoum.
And the dua was accepted but it was to happen 40 years later.
We should make dua for our qoum. Maybe it will not happen today. But maybe the next generation may see a better day.
We should hold on to sabar.
Hard times are going to come. This is a sign of end of times.
Syedna Rasool Allah sws was once sitting with Sahaba (ra) and warning and precautioning them that there will come a time in which there will be great “haraj”.
Sahaba karam (ra) asked, Nabi e Kareem sws what is this “haraj”?
Prophet sws said the killing and killing “qatal o qatal o qitaal”, killing and killing and killing. To paraphrase the general words of Nabi sws, that there will be killing everywhere.
And the killings will be such that the qatil will not know why they are killing and the ones being killed will not know why they are being killed. These are the signs of the end of times.
We have to become headstrong. We should hold on to sabar and remain steadfast on our deen (istiqamat).
We should not feel ingratitude. We should not say why is this happening to us? We should not think that maybe Islam is encouraging this type of killings.
Having sabar and istiqamat is that we remain steadfast on our deen.
Hazrat Sari Sakti (RA) and the tree
Aik dafa Hazrat Sari Sakti (RA) darakht ke neechay bethay thay. Inhein darakht ne kaha;
Oh Sari! Be like me.
Hazrat Sari (RA) replied
How can I be like you?
The tree replied
When people throw stones at me I respond with fruits.
Hazrat Sari (RA) said
If you are so good then how come you become the fuel for fire.
The tree replied.
Yes, that is true. I become fuel for fire.
Because I have one bad habit. When the wind blows I move with it. I don’t have istiqamat. And because of this bad habit Allah punishes me by making me the fuel for fire.
This story teaches us that;
We need to become strong with deen.
1. Remain steadfast on the sunnah
Even non-Muslim historians agree that Arabia was once the center of all burai. They fought each other. They killed their daughters. When Islam came everything changed. Even non-Muslim, atheist historians agree that Hazrat Mohammad (Peace be upon him) transformed Arabia.
If we hold on to sunnat, everything will change here too.
Some of us support PTI and expect PTI to bring a positive change in this country. Some of us support PPP and expect them to bring a positive change in this country.
Change will come when we start following Islam to the core and start implementing sunnat.
It starts with the heart.
Feelings of pride.
Feelings of anger.
Feelings of vengeance.
When we go to sleep at night we should reflect one how bad was I today?
Did I listen to music and enjoy it?
Did I have feelings of pride today?
Change starts at an individual level.
If we don’t change ourselves the world will not change.
Even non-Muslims say that
Be the change you want to see in the world.
The fact that we have this talb that we are here and learning about Islam, means that we have to be more responsible. The fact that Allah chose us to attain ilm makes us more responsible.
We should think that if I don’t change how will others who do not feel this urge to attain ilm will change?
We have to think I cannot get lazy with my Tahajjud.
I cannot get lazy with my namaz.
I cannot get lazy.
Aisa nahi ke hum bolein.. aaj sardi buhat hai tou mein ne fajar nahi parhi.
We need to become people who hold to sunnat. We should think that
If I try to change even a little bit, Allah will do the rest.
Boy and old woman story
There was this old woman. Whenever she saw a particular young man, she would call him and offer him food. The young man would always come and take the food.
Once he asked the woman why is it that you always call me and offer me such nice food.
The woman replied;
I had this son once who died when he was a kid. When I see you I am reminded of my son.
Hazrat Musa (AS) and the magicians
Hazrat Musa (AS) ko jab Firaun ne apnay mehal mein bualaya tha aur jaadogaron ko bhi bulaya tha. So, out of mockery the magicians wore the same kind of clothes as Hazrat Musa (AS). And in the end, the magicians walked out with imaan in their heart.
Following sunnat on exterior and interior both is important.
Politics is not going to get us anywhere, Islam is.
2. Gain knowledge of Islam. Attain ilm
If you become knowledgeable of Islam and attain ilm, you’ll have the ability to differentiate between right and wrong.
We need to attain knowledge of our own religion, Islam.
There are people, who, after the Peshawar attack declared that they do not belong to a religion which supports such barbarous murders.
Had they been knowledgeable they would have known that Islam doesn’t support any such behavior.
3. Depression is not the cure
We should make it a point not to be depressed. Depression leads to inaction.
People say that after hearing about the attack they couldn’t sleep the whole night. What good would that do?
If they say, after hearing about the attack I couldn’t sleep and so I spent the whole night praying to Allah that would have been beneficial.
We should remember that this is the same ummat, Nabi Kareem (Peace be upon him) cried for.
We should become people who love this ummat.
We should pray for our ummat.
And if we don’t feel the tears, we should fake them.
We should do tauba of our sins.
4. Shukar, Be grateful
Do shukar of all that we’ve got.
Take the example of a mother who has 1 candy. She has two children, so she gives that one candy to her older child. The other child wanted the candy very much but didn’t get it.
Imagine now that the older child throws away the candy. The other child will think that he didn’t do qadar of the candy that I wanted so much.
We belong to a sacred society. We should thank Allah for it.
We should thank Allah that He gave us health.
Story of a man without eyelids
There is a person who doesn’t have eyelids. If you don’t have eyelids, you can’t blink. If you can’t blink all the dust will stay in your eye. The man needs to wash his eyes every few minutes to get the dust out of his eye.
You know how your skin gets when you stay in water for too long. Stand in shower for 30 minutes and your skin will get all wrinkly.
As the man kept on washing his eye with water frequently, his eye got all wrinkly.
He went to the doctor and the doctor said that there are only two options, one is that you stay like this, two is that you get your eye removed.
The End of Times
We should remember that fitna will come. And it will increase with the passing of time.
What is fitna? Fitna is that once we fall, it would be difficult for us to get back up.
We should pray that in this time of fitna we don’t fall down and if we do we get back up.
Stories from Russia
Compare the situation in Pakistan with that of Russia.
Praying Namaz Publicly
Russia put their focus on communism. They didn’t allow people of any religion to follow it. People couldn’t pray namaz publicly. Even the children were trained so that if the parents had to pray they had to lock up their rooms and pray. Because if their children saw them praying, when the children will go out they’ll be forced to give the identity of their parents.
Situations may get bad but we need to be qaim.
Imparting Knowledge of Islam
There was a man in Russia (at that time) who wanted to impart the knowledge of Islam to his child. What he did was, every day he would wake up at the break of dawn and worked on his fields till midnight. So that even if anyone suspected him of being a Muslim they would think that by the time he reaches home he must get so tired that he won’t be able to any religious activity. But when he returned home, the whole night he taught his son about Islam.
Ulemas in Russia
There were a lot of ulemas in Russia. In order to eliminate them they were all put in a plane and the plane was flown to Serbia. Serbia is very cold. The plane left them there. The ulemas kept walking because they knew that if they stopped they’ll die. Eventually the people survived had their imaan intact.
Story from India – The Madarssa beneath a Pomegranate Tree
During the British regime, all madrassas and mosques were shut down.
A person decided that he would still spread the knowledge of Islam.
He sat under a pomegranate tree and started teaching one student.
And today Zaynab Academy and almost all madrassas are offsprings of that madrassa which started under the pomegranate tree.
This shows that if Allah wants he can make ways for us.
Stories from Russia
In Russia, there was this Muslim woman who decided that she will not let her imaan and other’s imaan from going away. She was very old and for many years she worked to keep her imaan and other’s imaan intact.
And even after years of hardwork if someone asked her to make dua she would say
Ya Allah! Please, please, safeguard my imaan and everyone’s imaan.
It’s not our efforts but our aajzi that will get us success in the akhirat.
Bring me something I don’t have.
People would say
Aye Allah! You are the Lord of the universe, what can we bring that you don’t have?
Allah will reply
You should bring aajzi to me.
In Russia, they were burning Quran. People were afraid that Quran will be lost.
They made a hall and from outside they painted it such that no one would be able to understand that there is a hall beyond the wall. Moreover, on the outside they filled cupboards with alcohol.
Children would say goodbye to their families and they will be sealed in the hall for months and months. They would have clothes and food and supplies for these months. And once sealed they would study Quran.

The following is a write up of a lecture given at Zaynab Academy
A man will be with whom he loves in jannat.
Context of this hadees
Once there was a sahabi who came up to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and said, Rasool Allah (PBUH), in this world I can always come to you, see you, talk to you. When I die and when the day of judgement comes, you will go in jannat, and I will inshaAllah go to jannat, but then I won’t be able to see you, talk to you. I think that maybe this world is better because I can talk to you.
To this, Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) replied with the hadees mentioned above;
A man will be with whom he loves in jannat.
Hearing this, Sahaba Karam (RA) got so happy that they only were this happy once before when they accepted Islam.
Once another Sahabi (RA) asked Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH);
When will qayamat come?
You know, when you ask someone a question and they reply you back with another question. This is what Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) did, he replied with another question.
How have you prepared for qayamat?
We can imagine what a Sahabi’s preparation for qayamat would be like. But humble as they were, the Sahabi (RA) replied;
I haven’t prepared much. There is this one thing I can show to Allah and that is my love for you Rasool Allah (PBUH).
There are five things that should be done to show respect and love to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
1. To have adab, izzat and ikraam of Nabi Kareem (PBUH)
What is love without respect?
Adab by Sahaba Karam (RA)
When Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) used to sit in a majlis of hadees, the Sahaba Karam (RA) sat with so much respect that they would sit completely still. They sat so still that the birds used to come and sit on their heads, and even then they didn’t move. This was the level of respect they showed to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
Adab by Imam Malik (RehmatUllah)
When anyone came to Imam Malik (RehmatUllah) to get information regarding a fiq masla, he used to reply immediately.
But when anyone came to Imam Malik (RehmatUllah) to get information regarding hadees or Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) he did not answer immediately. He first took bath (gusal), then he put on itar (perfume). Then there was a takhth. He sat on that takhth to reply to the queries regarding Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). He sat on this takhth only to reply to such queries.
2. Do not raise your voices
Allah says in Surah Hujraat;
Nabi Kareem (PBUH) se apni awaaz buland na karo.
How do you implement this today? You implement that by not raising your voice when you are visiting Rozay-e-Paak (PBUH). And what do we do. When we are at Rozay-e-Paak (PBUH) we not only raise our voices, but we push, shout, scream, update our statues on FaceBook and WhatsApp, take pictures.
Moreover, whenever you are in a majlis of hadees, or being taught hadees, you should sit with respect because those are the words of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
We should keep our wishes and desires below Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH)’s sunnat. Apni khwaishaat ko sunnat se neechay rakhein. What does that mean? If we want to do something that is not allowed in Islam, that we have been asked to refrain from in hadees, we should refrain from them and not do anything that is not allowed.
3. Love the places he (PBUH) lived at
Love and respect the places he (PBUH) used to live in, that is respect and love Madina Munawwara and Makkah Mukarama.
Let us take the example of a worldly love story which we all know. Laila Majnoon. We take the example of these stories for two reasons;
- Everyone knows these stories.
- If people can be so devoted to their worldly loves, why can’t we be dedicated to our love for Allah? Why can’t our love for Allah surpass these worldly love stories?
Getting back to the story of Laila Majnoon. Once Majnoo was seen kissing the legs of a dog. When people asked him what are you doing? He said that this dog has passed my Laila’s lane.
This is how some people show respect. By valuing anything and everything that comes from Madina or Makkah.
What should be our kaifyat when we visit Madinah Munawwara?
Each person has their own way of showing love. Mohabbat ke takazay alag hotay hain.
You’ll see that some people don’t throw away the seed of date if it is a date from Madinah or Makkah. You’ll see that some people have a jar filled with these seeds in their rooms. We call this madness. We say that aisay tou nahi hota hai. It’s just a way of expressing love. And everyone has their own way of expressing love. Just shift the paradigms. We don’t complain when someone saves a pen given by their favorite teachers. We don’t complain when they treasure this pen like anything. Why should we feel that having a jar full of seeds of Madinah’s dates is wrong?
To be like him (PBUH), eat like him (PBUH), walk like him (PBUH), talk like him (PBUH), sit like him (PBUH), look like him (PBUH).
When we love someone, we love what they love. We know that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) loved squash (loki) and honey. We know that he (PBUH) used to search for squash in a dish.
We should love what he (PBUH) loved, walk like he (PBUH) walked etc.
5. Love his (PBUH) companions
Imaan kee alamat hai ansaar se mohabbat. Anfaq kee alamat hai ansaar se bugz.
Pillar of imaan is to love Sahaba Karam (RA).
Like we put salt in flour and without it there will be no falvor in bread. Sahaba Karam (RA) are like that salt in flour.
My Sahaba (RA) are like stars.
Allah has given three reasons for the creation of the stars we find in the sky every night.
- For beauty.
- For navigation: In olden times, people used to look at the stars above and fix their routes.
- To hit shaitaan in the skies: Shooting stars hit shaitaan in the skies.
Similar are the Sahaba Karam (RA) who have been referred to by Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) as stars.
1. They are so beautiful
Even their names are beautiful. Sahaba ka tou naam hee aisa hai k naam le ke maza aata hai.
When we read about Sahaba Karam (RA) we wish we were there with them, witnessing all of it.
Rohaani cheezon, fiqi masail aur ilm k liye hum inhein (RA) hee dekhtay hain.
Sahaba Karam (RA) have already asked so many questions to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) that there is nothing left unclear or ambiguous. When we hear some hadees, and a question comes up in our mind, we just need to wait a little and we’ll know that some Sahaba has already asked the same question.
When you think you have a problematic life, just pick up the story of any of the Sahaba’s and you’ll know that your problems are small as compared to the obstacles these Sahabas and Sahabiyaats faced for Islam.
Who are Sahabis?
The people who spent time with Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
Pre-requisites of being a Sahabi
- They should have imaan: For e.g. although Abu Lahab was an uncle (chacha) of Rasool Allah (PBUH), but as he had no imaan he is not a Sahabi.
- They died on imaan
- Then have seen Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) in state of imaan. Then what about anyone who was blind? Syedna Abdullah (RA) was blind. Therefore, a better statement is “woh log jinhon ne Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) ko imaan kee halat mein paya”.
Who are Tabaye?
A person who just missed Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). For e.g. a person heard about Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and followed his (PBUH) teachings. He left his home for Madinah so that he could meet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). But when he reached Madinah he found that everyone was crying. On inquiring he was informed that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) had just passed.
This person and the ones like him, then became the students of Sahaba Karam (RA).
There were over one lac Sahaba Karam (RA). How many of them do we know about?
Today, we will discuss about some Sahabis we normally know little about.
The Three Abdullah
Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA)
Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA) was once shepherding sheeps (bakriyaan charha rahay thay). Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and Hazrat Abu Bakar (RA) were on a journey when they approached him and asked for milk. Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA), who had not embraced Islam at that point, said that he cannot give them any milk as these are not his sheep. Giving them milk of someone else’s sheep would be khayanat and he cannot do that.
Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) then asked him if he had any goat that hadn’t yet given birth. Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA) brought a goat to him. Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) placed his hand on the goat’s thanon and the goat gave milk enough for both Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and Hazrat Abu Bakar (RA).
Seeing this miracle Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA) realized that this could only be a Prophet and he embraced Islam. It is to note that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) was not preaching Islam to Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Masood (RA). Hazrat Abdullah (RA) embraced Islam after witnessing this miracle.
Later on, when Hazrat Abdullah (RA) passed away two Sahaba Karam (RA) were talking;
“Do you think there is anyone left after him?”
The other Sahabi replied;
Syedna Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA)
The muqaam that Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas got was due to his
Once when Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) went to relieve himself, Syedna Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas realized that he (PBUH) would need water, so he filled a bowl with water and placed it where Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) was sitting. When Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) came back, he saw the bowl of water and asked who had kept it there. Everyone replied that it was Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas (RA). Hearing this, Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) prayed for Hazrat Abdullah (RA)
Aye Allah is ko deen kee samajh ata farma.
He (PBUH) gave this dua, because Hazrat Abdullah (RA) had put so much thought into this act.
There could be three ways of helping;
- Go and give water and invade privacy.
- Place water a little far away so as to help yet not invade privacy.
- Not doing anything.
Hazrat Abdullah (RA) didn’t go to either of the two extremes and took the middle route. As he had put so much thought into this act and took the middle route which indicated his samajh, Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) gave him dua for samajh in deen as well.
Once Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and Hazrat Abdullah (RA) were praying Tahajud together. Hazrat Abdullah (RA) was standing behind Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). Nabi Kareem (PBUH) took Hazrat Abdullah (RA)’s hand and pulled him to make him stand just besides him (PBUH). But Hazrat Abdullah (RA) again got back and stood behind Nabi Kareem (PBUH). Later on, Nabi Kareem (PBUH) asked Hazrat Abdullah (RA) why he was standing behind him (PBUH) and not with him (PBUH). Hazrat Abdullah (RA) replied,
Ya Rasool (PBUH), mere kya auqaat k mein aap (PBUH) ke shana bashana khara hoon.
Tafseer ke maahir
Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA)
Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA)’s son.
Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA)’s level of adab
Once Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) was sitting with his (PBUH) companions. This included Hazrat Abu Bakar (RA) and Hazrat Umar (RA) and others. Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA) who was very young at that time was also in this gathering.
Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) asked them a question;
To which tree a momin most resembles (Momin kis shajray se sab se zada milta hai)?
Hazrat Abduallh Ibn-e-Umar (RA) got the correct answer immediately, but he didn’t say it out loud because his elders were sitting there. Meanwhile the other sahabas gave incorrect answers. And finally Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) replied that it is “the tree of dates”.
As he was just a child, he couldn’t keep it to himself for long and later told Hazrat Umar (RA) that I knew the correct answer to the question. Hazrat Umar (RA) said that ‘why didn’t you give the answer at that time? If you had given the correct answer at that time I would have been so proud that it would have been more important to me than 100 camels’. But Hazrat Abdullah (RA) said that how could I have said anything when my elders were present there. Such was his level of adab.
Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA)’s dream
Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA) used to sleep in Masjid-e-Nabwi (PBUH). One night he saw a dream that two angels were dragging him towards a well. He understood that the well was hell and he refused to go there. A third angel came and told him “Don’t worry they won’t be able to take you there”.
Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) used to sit with sahabas (RA) and asked them if anyone has seen a dream at night he would tell them its tabeer. Sahabas used to wish to have a dream that they would later ask Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) the tabeer of.
Now, Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA) didn’t ask the tabeer of his dream directly from Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). He asked his sister (Hazrat Hafsa (RA), have to confirm the correct name) to ask the tabeer from Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
When Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) heard this dream, he said;
Abdullah kitna acha aadmi hai, bas woh namaz parha karay.
After this, Hazrat Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar (RA) didn’t sleep much at night, and used to spend the night doing ibadah.
Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (RA)
Hazrat Anas (RA) was only 10 years old when his mother brought him to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and said
Accept this child to do your khidmat.
Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) gave the child a dua
Is ke maal aur aulaad mein barkat ata farmaye.
As a barkat of his dua, his garden gave fruits twice in a year. Usually gardens give fruits once a year. And he had 100 children.
He was khadim-e-khaas. Hazrat Anas (RA) said;
I was 10 years old when I came in the khidmat of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and I did his khidmat for 10 years. And in these 10 years, Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) ne na mujhe danta, na maara, na kabhi pocha ke yeh kyun kiya, na kabhi yeh pocha k yeh kyun nahi kiya.
Syedna Um-e-Sulaim (RA)
Hazrat Anas (RA)’s mother.
She was married to Maalik who was a kaafir. She accepted Islam, but he hadn’t accepted Islam before he died. They had a child named Hazrat Anas (RA).
She came to Madinah (have to confirm) and started living there. Hazrat Abu Talha (RA) sent his proposal to her.
At that time Hazrat Abu Talha (RA) had not accepted Islam. He wanted to accept Islam but he hadn’t. When he sent his proposal to Syedna Um-e-Sulaim (RA), she said, I will marry you on one condition. I will marry you if you accept Islam.
Hazrat Abu Talha (RA) accepted Islam and they got married.
Nabi Kareem (PBUH) ko jannat dekhaye gaye aur wahan unhein kisi aurat ke qadmon kee chaap sunaye dee. Pochnay pe maloom hua ke yeh Hazrat Um-e-Sulaim (RA) ke qadmon kee awaz hai.
Nabi Kareem (PBUH) also heard a man’s qadmon kee chaap. Who was it?
It was Hazrat Bilal (RA).
Relationship with Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH)
Hazrat Um-e-Sulaim (RA) was mehram to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). She was probably her rishtay kee khala.
Nabi Kareem (PBUH) used to visit her home frequently.
Islamic history is full of such stories. Stories of heroes, who spent their lives pleasing Allah.
The sad thing is we know more about celebrities then we know about Sahabas or Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH).
We should try and read up on these blessed people as much as we can. And then share our knowledge with each other.
For solutions to our problems we should look at their lives.
For improving our knowledge regarding deen, we should read Quran, Hadees, life of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and lives of shabas and sahabiyaats.

Once a person said that Allah gives chances of forgiveness. Which can be rightly put in Urdu as;
Karni thi magfirat tou bahanay bana diye
Jannat mein mominon ke tikhanay bana diye
Just a few months ago it was Ramzan, and we all know that Ramzan brings with itself ample opportunities of forgiveness. And now we are days away from Zilhajj.
We human beings are prone to make mistakes. It comes in Hadees Shareef:
“Bani adam banaya hee gaya hai k woh khata (mistake) karay”
Which means that human beings have been designed so that they make mistakes now and again. But the Hadees continues as;
“And the best of Bani Adam is the one who repents”
Nothing is designed to break. For example, the car Jaguar is not designed to break three months down the road.
Take the example of boxing ring. When the boxer falls, coach does not get upset but tries to bring him back with 1, 2, 3. The coach only gets upset when the boxer doesn’t stand up again. Similarly, it is wrong for human beings not to repent their sins.
If you think about it, we all have our unique ways of sinning. And it’s not like we have this one sin to be forgiven. We can’t and don’t say that Allah I have done this one thing wrong and please forgive me for this. We bring in mountains of sins. And Allah has made this deen so that there are various opportunities of magfirat. Deen bhi aisa banaya gaya hai ke Allah magfirat karein.
Islam has been designed so that sins are forgiven from;
One jamat to the next jamat
One wuzu to the the next wuzu
One Friday to the next Friday
One Umra to the next Umra
One Hajj to the the next Hajj
Allah says that He forgives in a way that the person comes out like a new born baby.
Nowhere else can we find this. For e.g., if you get in a minor accident and your car gets some dents, you can go the mechanic and it will look like new after a few days. But if you get in a big accident and your car gets completely ruined, the mechanic will tell you that there is no point in fixing this car, it will be so expensive that it will be better for you to buy a new car instead.
But Allah tends to forgive all sins and the person is like a new born child, the person has a clean slate.
People who are going to hajj are indeed fortunate people. We, who will be staying back, are not so fortunate. How do we reap the benefits of hajj?
Do you know the way the entire country gets when Pakistan is playing a cricket match? We don’t go out in the field and play cricket and represent our country. But even from our drawing rooms, it’s like we are there with our team. We hang on to every ball. We shout out on every wicket of the opponent team. We celebrate every sixer. We paint the Pakistani flag on our faces. On that day, we are all Pakistanis.
Similar is with Hajj. Allah has created ways so that we can also benefit from this month.
When Allah’s blessings pour down, they don’t just pour down on one area or one country. They can pour down everywhere. We are not restricted by time and space. Even if we are not going for hajj, we can still benefit from this month.
Following are some ways:
1. Meet the people who are going to Hajj…
With respect and love (ihtram aur ikram). Try to be of service to them. And ask them to pray for you, make dua for you. As Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (Peace be upon him) prayed to Allah that,
“Aye Allah, us shaks kee duaein qubool karye ga jo hajj pe jaye, aur jin logon ke liye who dua karay woh duaein bhi qubool karye ga.”
And sitting here, pray to Allah that the people who are going to Hajj remember to pray for you. 🙂
2. Allah rotates the earth around the sun in a way that the month ZilHajj comes on the whole earth
It’s not just one country experiencing Zil Hajj, it’s the whole world. Where ever we are, we can experience this month of rehmat.
Try to keep up to date with the proceedings of Hajj and do the following:
- Fast throughout the day.
- Pray throughout the night.
In our religion, every event occurs with some indications before the actual event. For e.g. before Hazrat Mohammad Mustafa (Peace be upon him) got first revelation (wahi), he (Peace be upon him) started experiencing certain dreams and the stones bowed to him (Peace be upon him).
Before the first roza of Ramadan, we stand for taraveh.
Similar is the case with Zil Hajj. The 9th of Zil Hajj is indeed an important day, full of blessings. But the days before 9th of Zil Hajj are also full of blessings.
“Every single fast from the 1st of Zil Hajj to the 9th of Zil Hajj will give reward of keeping fast for 1 whole year.”
This is a good deal, and we all look out for good shopping deals. So why not take up this deal?
Hajis themselves do not fast. But we can, in order to reap the benefits of Zil Hajj.
It comes in hades that when we fast on 9th of Zil Hajj, one year’s sins are forgiven.
It also comes in hades that one night’s prayer is like praying on Lailat-ul-qadar.
There is this strange concept amongst people that instead of doing qurbani, I should give charity. We forget that every ibadat has a meaning.
Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) on Allah’s instruction left Hazrat Hajra (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS). When he was leaving, Hazrat Hajra (AS) asked him (AS);
“Aap humein akaila chore ke ja rahay hain?” (Are you leaving us alone?)
Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) did not answer.
Hazrat Hajra (AS) again asked;
“Aap humein akaila chore ke ja rahay hain?” (Are you leaving us alone?)
Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) did not answer.
Then Hazrat Hajra (AS) asked;
“Are you carrying out Allah’s orders?”
To this, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) replied, “Yes”.
You may ask, on what mission Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) was going on when he left Hazrat Hajra (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS). It was not a mission, it was a test.
[If you think about it, when our brothers or fathers or husbands leave us somewhere in our own cars, they make sure that all doors are locked and they try to come back as hurriedly as possible. Can you imagine how difficult it must be for Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to leave behind his wife and son?
Now imagine, how it must feel to be left behind? Being a 21st century women, we might just start screaming on top of our voices if someone was leaving us alone in a deserted place.]
When Hazrat Ismail (AS) started crying for water, Hazrat Hajra (AS) ran between safa and marwa to look for water. Mimicking this we Muslims do sai (running between safa and marwa). Even during Umra, it is essential to do sai.
When we do qurbani, we mimick Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), by sacrificing.
Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) on Allah’s orders was ready to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail (AS). And Hazrat Ismail (AS) knowing that it was Allah’s order was ready to be sacrificed. And it was just when Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) was about to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail (AS), did Allah replace Hazrat Ismail (AS) with a sheep.
Just imagine, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) was ready to sacrifice his own son, one he loved dearly. And Hazrat Ismail (AS) never tried to stop him; he too was ready to be sacrificed.
Mimicking this, we perform the act of qurbani on 10th/11th/12th of Zil Hajj. It is important that we do it consciously.
Moreover, as it is a religious duty it can only be done willingly. If a husband is doing sacrifice on behalf of his wife, it is his responsibility to ask her permission.
We have even been told about the distribution of meat as well.
1/3rd for our own selves
2/3rd for our relatives, family and friends
3/3rd for poor.
A person intending to do qurbani should not clip his nails or hairs from the 1st of Zil Hajj to the time of qurbani.
So much in our deen is about making connection, making nisbat. Pray to Allah that
“Allah my thoughts are there.”
Show Allah the longing, the willingness, the yearning for Hajj.
Allah kee azmat o kibrayai bayan karein.
From the Fajar of 9th of Zil Hajj till the Asar of 13th of Zil Hajj, after every farz prayer recite takbeerat. This is mandatory for all of us. Even people who are not performing Hajj.
What is the point?
We are making a connection with Hajis.
This is to show to Allah that,
“You will look at little ole me in Pakistan, trying to act like Hajis, because I so yearn to go for Hajj like them.”
Remember that if Allah’s rehmat is raining heavily at one place it can drizzle somewhere else too.

Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded, (45)
~Surah Al-Baqara, Quran
The more I read Eoin Colfer, the more I fall in love with his books and the more I crave for ‘more’.
After I finished the Artemis Fowl series, I wasn’t sure I would like any other book of his. Airman, bought from Liberty Books at the 9th Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF), stayed in my shelf for a long time before I picked it up a few weeks ago and immediately all my doubts shattered. Eoin Colfer’s other books are just as good, it seems. Because Airman was just too good!
The book is set up in late 1870’s when ‘flying’ has not been accomplished yet. The story starts with narrations regarding Conor Broekhart’s (interesting name, isn’t it?), the protagonist of the story, fascination and inclination towards flying. Anyone who has met him will tell that he is a smart boy, clever for his age. An incident having to do something with fire and saving a life and Conor’s brilliant escape lands him under the guidance of a scientist named Victor Vigny. Victor takes up the tutoring of Conor, and not only teaches him science and the art of fighting, but also involves him in his experiments to fly. Soon enough, Conor begins to contribute in the experiments. But a sudden turn of events lands Conor in jail for the murder of the king. His parents also believe that he is a murderer and all this compels him to escape from prison, not to prove his innocence but to flee away to another country and start a new life. There is just this one problem; the jail’s on an island, in order to escape, one would need to FLY.
Luckily, our hero has a passion for just that.
The story continues with how Conor survives in the jail as Conor Finn and how he longs to fly. But how can that be done from a jail when it wasn’t possible when he was free and under the guidance of his tutor Victor?
You will love this book. It is an interesting page turner which will keep you hooked till the very end. The characters of this book, like the characters in Eoin Colfer’s other books, throw away witty comments which will make you smile, if not laugh. This book too is light with light-hearted fun and no ramblings of the unfair attitude of life. The characters stand up to the challenges and fight the obstacles with wit, cleverness and calmness.
They say these are books for ‘young boys’. I am not a boy and not so young either, but I still love these books. I liked Supernaturalist, I liked Artemis Fowl and I liked Airman. It’s time to try his first adult novel ‘The Plugged’. I have placed an order using Liberty Books Request a Book service. I hope it’s on its way now. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.
If you live in Pakistan, you can order the book from 786cart.com
Favorite lines from the book:
‘What I need you to do is close your eyes and picture the man who sent you here. Use your hatred of him to awaken the killer instinct.’
Conor did not need to concentrate for long. Bonvilain’s face sprang into his mind’s eye, complete with hateful eyes and derisory sneer.
‘And now, Conor, tell me, do you think you can kill?’
Conor considered everything Bonvilain had done to the Broekhart family.
‘Yes,’ he said. ‘I can kill.’
